Why do American movies show Greek people as Fair skinned?

Every movie made in America about Greece depict Greek people as having fair skin. But movies from Greece show Greek people as having olive skin! What is up with this?|||lmao..I don't have an answer, but, i completely agree with you.. I have seen this in many movies, and not only Greeks, also, Mexican, Italian. etc.|||It's called Eurocentricity. He that holds the dominance will call the shots and try to make up there own version of history. The older movies show white people running Egypt, Tarzan fighting everybody in Africa, and Jesus Christ painted as a white person. Of course, if one really thinks about it, you'll know that such things are not really true.

In most american movies, why is it that american teenagers are very disrespectful of their parents?

is it just in the movies? or is it based on reality? the way they answer their parents are very disrespectul, they talk back, they shout back thinking they know everything. it's very hurtful as a parent to see that, makes me boil my blood %26amp; slap my daughter, i mean, the TV.|||It's not American teens only like that. Teens everywhere rebel and are just plain nasty to be around. Some are nice and respectful , but at times everyone gets angry and yells at their parents. No one is innocent of that.|||I think that the rebel behaviour comes greatly from overstrict parents. Im a 15 years old teen and i rarely have conflicts with my parents. We both use common sense.

I could do drugs (i have some classmates that are into that, so if i wanted to i could get it) do i do drugs? No, they are bad for your health and you become addicted.

I look old enough, and soon will be, to buy alcohol. Do i do it? Rarely, im not interested in getting myself drunk, i enjoy 1 beer about every two weeks, thats less than most adults.

I could get cigarettes if i wanted to. Do i do it? No, smoking is the absolute turn-off. You stink, you become unhealthy, etc.

My parents NEVER told me i was not allowed to drink, do drugs, or smoke.

I dont do it anyway.

You see, i was raised with common sense, not with over-strictness.|||Watching people be obedient doesn't make for very good television, does it? Disobedience causes drama, pain, anger, and those are things that people love watching. Movies are made to be entertaining, not to be realistic, and sometimes that means that something which is rare in life is very common in movies.|||Its terrible I know!! I could never act that way to my parents but its true, some do. I could never behave that way, not only because I'd get in big trouble, but just because, I would never want to yell at my parents.|||Because it would probably be a boring movie if they weren't disrespecting thier parents.|||because too many parents let their kids become brats..its easier to say yes to every demand than say no and enforce discipline...its so sad cause these kids are gonna be messed up.|||because their parents are idiots|||Not all american teens are like that, but I have seen many that are.|||not all american teens are like that, but some are.

Are foreign movies even MORE scarier than american movies if so how?

like i dont get it how are they scary even more like maybe asia is more scary cause theres grudges everywhere you look but how is it scarier ?|||Asia's horror films in my opinion are far better than American horror films. Because America relies on a lot of blood and gore to make their movies scary for example SAW. In American films if it fairly simple to figure out who is going to die and in most cases the killer and why.

While in for example Korean horror films it is much different. Korean horror tend to more terrifying for more psychological reasons. You think you understand why something is happening but it isn't until the end you understand what is really happening. Example Deathbell 1 and 2|||No, alot country's have " scary" movies, the grudge movies were only remade into American movies because the story would probably sell well since it sold well there, plus it will seem more spooky since those videos are from a culture people that are not from there don't understand, when people don't understand something it makes it scary....

What whesites can I use for american movie expressions?I would like to understand movies easily.?

Have you heard of some new slangs or expressions in American movies?I am looking for a website to help me find the meaning of the new words or in some cases I wooould like to have the movie script.I heard in Garfiled this sentence. He is a tick boy. What does the sentence mean?|||It's tabou to answer a question with a question so I must just STATE that I don't know what a whesite is even though I know you have trouble with the word 'website'. However, to give the devil his due - your misspelling has a nice 'ring' to it if you pronounce it: whess-it-tay. No es verdad?

Who is your favorite non-american actor who takes American roles in movies/TV?

Russell Crowe comes to mind. I discount Mel Gibson because he is a bigot, and he only acts in dumb movies anyway. Any other actors from England, Australia, New Zealand you think are convincing as Americans? Male or Female.|||Actually, Mel Gibson is a US citizen, born in Peekskill, NY and raised in Oz.

However, consider the following

Minnie Driver

Eddie Izzard

Liam Neison

Colin Farrel

Hugh Laurie|||Hugh Laurie

Do english people use subtitles when watching american movies?

I read somewhere that an american woman went to the movie theater in england and there were subtitles. is this true? do you do it own your own if you are watching a movie in your house|||No dont think so, im scottish and never heard of anybody recently wanting subtitles to watch an american/brittish film, it is funny if its true. But i have heard that the scottish film Trainspotting by Danny Boyle was Subtitled/Re dubbed for the American Audience as they coudnt understand the Edinburgh 'scottish' accents...(Even i find it difficult to understand Glaswegian accents and im from Edinburgh)...lol....Only in America.

EDIT. well it was dubbed for sure. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117951/triv… and ken loach's Riff Raff was subtitled http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn… and a lot of other brittish films (ie Gregorys girl) redubbed or subtitled for the american audience.|||No! It might have been a French movie with English sub-titles, but not American with sub-titles

Sometimes Americans are a little hard for British/Australian people to understand, especially Southern drawls, but mainly it's not too bad and I've never seen sub-titles for American movies in England or Australia!

I think it's harder for Americans to understand some British accents (like Scottish and Irish and London cockney) than it is for us to understand American accents.

We are so exposed to the American culture that it's not difficult to understand the accents.|||Haha, I use subtitles when watching DVDs at my house! My friends hate it, they always make me turn the subtitles off. But although I can hear fine and can understand what's going on in a movie, I find subtitles to be convenient.

You don't even KNOW how much you've missed in a movie until you use subtitles... Even favorite movies of mine that I've watched over and over, I seem to find new things in them whenever I use subtitles.|||no cause the americans on movies all have really good accents, however do americans use subtitles when they have americans playing irish peolple.|||Nope!

Like the others have said, only films that have been made in another language get subtitles. Why waste money making subtitles for something we can understand?|||Totally untrue. The only time subtitles are used are in foreign language movies.|||haha no offence its not like your speaking another language tbh your speaking our language you just changed it a little :P|||Lol no reason why we should use subtitles- after all it's our language you guys are using :/|||no the only time subtitles are used in cinema are when foreign films are being shown|||No this is not true. First I've heard of it actually!?!|||no we do not, its easier understanding americans than it is some rural ares of Britain|||No|||no lol

Why do Indians remake American movies and even steal the name Hollywood (Bollywood)?

How uncreative can you be?|||Everyone wants to be American because they have no culture of their own.|||@Morgan How can you talk about not having culture. What's Americans culture can you explain. Indian culture is one of the most beautiful culture. But I do agree with the person who ask seriously Hollywood,Bollywood no creativity.|||Bollywood is crap, but outside of Bollywood there is some pretty good Indian cinema. Check out the Aparajito (Apu) trilogy by Satyajit Ray.

http://www.amazon.com/Trilogy-Aparajito-鈥?/a>|||Americans steal American movies too. Ever hear of Asylum?

Why do Americans copy Japanese horror films?|||There's an old saying, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,"

I'm Cambodian ,I like American movie I find the wonderful stories ,how to bring them into movies in Hollywood?

I dream about being a film maker there just to bring my dream out to show the world as people there can do. I'm trying to write the stories in English and I'm pretty shy to tell my English teacher that my characters and locations are set in USA. Now my dream seem to kill me.|||I have a guy friend who's Cambodian too! He's a really nice guy. I have noticed that many Cambodians are very shy, but you shouldn't be shy because what you have to say is important too, no one will know what you're thinking unless you tell them.

I think you should do some Cambodian films too, because many Americans do not know what it is like to be Cambodian, unless you tell us. I've always liked Asian movies myself, and I'm American. Maybe you should write a story about yourself, and what it is like to be Cambodian?

All dreams are important no matter where you are from or who you are. Keep at it, don't give up your dream.

By the way, I have heard of this Cambodian American who lives in the USA, named Sam Lorn; many of his films are Cambodian, and right now he's doing a film with Angelina Jolie.

Good luck!!!|||Why join the Hollywood crowd? The movies here are getting so boring. They keep remaking the same movies again and again. Become the best Cambodian filmaker and the world will pay attention. Maybe you can influence Hollywood to actually put out a decent movie for a change.|||If you become a film maker in Hollywood, make sure you keep away from the high and mighty think they know all movie stars. example "George Clooney) I say follow your dreams for that will make you happiest.

When did American movies begin being shown in Australia? and how well received?

what were films like in Australia before? and how about New Zealand?

what allowed this? was this at the same time as Briain ? when started Satellite tv? and again, what had been on previously? and how different and how much American films, programs replaced and why?

please explain what you can' too as to how this has affected their culture ..how similar to England still?

thanks for your answers!|||American films have been in Britain for many years, it is because of the successful marketing power of Hollywood to get their films out here. They have pretty much taken over the domestic market and are working on our TV programmes as well.

The effects of this are wide and fairly hard to quantify except subjectively. The good news is that most of us still call things by their traditional British names like: biscuits not cookies, cinema rather than the movies, etc.

I can't answer for Australia, but I'm sure it is not too much different. Interestingly the few Aussie films I've seen tend to show that culturally we Brits have more in common with them than Americans.|||probably because a film gained popularity in america people in britain and australia became interested, it has probably happened quite early on in the film industry.

if probably affected british culture by what we think of other countries like american high schools, we all have a certain idea about what one is like but often it is exagerated to make a movie interesting.

That goes with the territory in a free country.

BUT if you look at American movies that bring in the most money... which means the most people are going to see it... They are consistently decent family/values-oriented movies... not the violent, shallow stuff you are (rightfully) criticizing. Violent/Sexual movies often even get more media coverage, because they are controversial, but that does NOT mean they are the most popular in American culture.

There's a standing joke in America that if the critics hate a movie, most families will love them.|||'Cause they enjoy watching mindless but funny comedy more than asking mindless but not funny questions on the internet.

Why do American movies always depict sex first then love?

Aren't we messing up young ppl's mind?|||You kidding me? People are getting programmed to be whores through the media all the time.

Sin is the new socially acceptable lifestyle. It comes at a great cost though..|||When you use a word like "always" you invite exceptions. Here is one film where the love comes first and there is no sex, just a kiss: "Green Card".

Generally I don't think it is "messing up" a young persons mind to depict sex. I think it is bad for children when we wrap sex in shame and mystery. Sex is an important part of our physical and emotional health. Taking a healthy person and telling them to refrain from sex causes harm. I refer you to the Catholic clergy.|||Because it sells. That doesn't mean it is right or accurate.

Why do we think of mice were negative, but American movies are molded them into the lovely image?

it's a servey for my school project

i need everyone's opinion plz

thank you=D|||What?|||Mice can also be kind of cute. American media likes to promote cuteness. For example; American media's current obsession with young women singers. Brittany's getting too old, Lindsey's a lush, but Hannah Montana is a big thing.|||It is a question of culture and mind conditioning.

The American version is of the mickey type. All other version are just not acceptable.|||Probably because mice are wild animals that come in your house as you please, but people love tame mice you can have as pets.

I prefer fancy rats.|||maybe cause they can carry diseases? and they can bite? i don't know. Im not indiana jones but rats scare me. Right up there with snake or spiders!

Why are the actors in American movies and TV shorts always beautiful or handsome?

I know that there are a lot of good looking birds out there but surely they are not all like that?|||Yes the U.S has some of the most gorgeous women in the world. Also being attractive is basically a prerequisite in order to star in most American films.|||Thats because you never get anywhere in Hollywood unless you look like Angelina, Cameron or Paris!!!!!!!|||I think 'beauty' is so broad that it comprises not only the physcial appearance, but also such aspects as attitude, values, character...

Many actors are actually considered 'average looking'. Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell and even Tom Cruise. Look at them - are they gorgeous? Well, I don't think so. But look at the number of fans (female fans, especially) Tom Cruise has. I mean, he is shorter than his wife and have you seen his recent flat hairstyle? I don't think he is good looking, but he is so talented and such a good actor that people are 'fooled' into the idea that he is handsome.

And of course, makeup plays an important role as well. Facial imperfections are hidden. Even Daniel Radcliffe had his acne digitally erased from the screen by special effect engineers in his latest Harry Potter movie! Cover page photos you see on magazine are so meticulously prepared that every strand of hair is made sure to be in place. Zac Efron airbrushed himself so much on the recent Rolling Stones cover.

There are many handsome actors in Hollywood because with a good look, only will most people then have the confidence and self-esteem to cast themselves in auditions and directors will choose those who they think will appeal to the public (and that's why they eventually become stars and people will start to notice and admire them for their supposedly good looks). This is because different age groups have different perception of 'beauty'. Why did you think Kenny Ortega chose Zac Efron to be the star of High School Musical instead of Corbin Bleu or Andrew Seely? And if the latter is chosen, do you think High School Musical will be such a huge success? And do you think a 5 year old tot will think Justin Timberlake is sexy?

Beauty transcends physical appearance. A positive attitude, kind and friendly character and strong values in life are more important factors to change the pereception of 'beauty' that others have of you.|||Think about Danny DeVito --- hmmmmm!|||That's not ALWAYS the case but in general because sex sells. People will develop crushes and keep coming back for more.|||I agree with LeoGirl...

People tend to not use their imagination when they translate between an unattractive actor and an ideal image...

Better they see the ideal and hope they don't find themselves having difficulty accepting a real-life situation should they happen to be positioned as such...

It's called entertainment...I'm easily entertained, but I'm outnumbered...

Thanks! Yours is a question that begged asking!!|||We must "sell" what people willing to pay|||beauty sells... I'd like to see a little more attention payed to good writing myself... but I do love to look at the hotties all the same :P

Wentworth Miller

Ryan Phillipe

mmm|||Only the women are beautiful. The male actors are usually slightly better than average looking, because the straight male directors are jealous or don't want to compete with them.|||beautiful is in, ugly is out. a worldwide tragedy. most of the pretty ones have been handmade. like chinese toys they look pretty but are mostly cheap fakes.|||I wouldn't watch TV if everyone or a majority of actors were ugly. Movies and TV are an art form (some of more quality than others). Along with plot and character building we need something pretty to look at to keep our attention. I wouldn't watch "House" if Hugh Laurie wasn't such a smokin hot Britt. I wouldn't watch Law %26amp; Order SVU if Mariska Hargitay wasn't so oddly beautiful. Ya know?|||Because America is very shallow! (Sorry but it's true.) We've gotten a little better though. Heard of the movie HAIR SPRAY? Well the main chick in that ain't too attractive. But the fact still remains and that is that we are shallow. But it is a good marketing technique. Gotta go w/ what works.|||The reason why most directors tend to cast people who are considered good looking in their films/TV shows is because most people like looking at attractive people, it gets people looking... if you have an actor like Johnny Depp/Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie in your film, their fans are practically guaranteed to see it whether it's a good film or not... easy money!

Not all actors are good looking though, I agree that the majority of them are, but just look at Steve Buscemi, Mickey Rourke, Quentin Tarrentino, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Amanda Plummer, Kathy Bates, Danny DeVito...

Admittedly it's mostly males who are more likely to succeed even if they aren't attractive but it's still possible to make a name for yourself without being stunning (and surprisingly they all tend to be in Robert Rodriguez films hehe)

There are also quite a few actors/actresses who probably wouldn't be considered attractive if they were not in films - Uma Thurman, Nicolas Cage, Tony Collette etc.

And airbrushing can help a lot.. Cameron Diaz in particular is well known for her bad skin!|||coz they are all made of botox, silicone and other man made substances!! They are beautiful now but wait til they get old, janice dickinson, jackie stalone, bride of wildenstein, the late anna nicloe smith to name a few.....|||yea...but thats the point...American media is very much based on sex appeal. Its not only that but also the "reality shows" on MTV really don't give you much insight on the real world. Rock music is the only thing that has been unaffected by this sex appeal, but even that is getting to be tainted by this slutty curse on America (Avril Lavine...nuff said)|||Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... you really need to get your eyes checked!

Are the penalties just much lower over in the US than in the UK?|||Its the movies sparky. its for entertainment%26lt;|||don't be fooled, it happens here as well, it's just our police are more

'on the ball'..|||Well... the penalties are severe here also. As to why they show this, I guess it is an example of art imitating life. (people are stupid)|||In terms of driving drunk in the U.S. the penalties are not comparable to that of a movie or television show. What you see in the movies or television shows, is usually scripted which means its not real. So whatever sentence the character will get on a television show is usually less than the actual punishment. Here in America if you are caught driving drunk you will almost always have your license revoked, pay a heavy fine, and you will likely spend the night in jail and be sentenced accordingly. The key part of this is, "jail". Usually when driving drunk you won't get off. The police will arrest you, read you your rights, and put you in jail until they can properly sentence you. So real punishments don't compare to that of the movies. The purpose of movies or television shows is to gain an audience. Of course it will distort the truth in an attempt to get more money and viewers.|||the tv shows are not for real|||Yeas, it's a film. But, their punishments are no-where near the same.

Loosing your license, well it would only be for a limited time, maybe 30,60 or 90 days. Not years.

In California, if you have to spend time in jail, and you have a job, you keep the job and go to jail in your free time, e.g. nightime %26amp; weekends.

Also there is the old rule of sobriety, rather than over a arbitrary limit.

Just think of the terrible comments about someone being twice the legal limit, a couple of years ago, that was the legal limit!|||yes its bad to show it people copy and think its ok.|||The clue is in the question - TV show/movie.|||How come in Brit TV shows everyone drinks tea with the pinky finger sticking up in the air?

Don't be so quick to judge a culture solely based on television productions.

Do any American movies have non-whites as leads WITHOUT making ethnicity a theme?

Are there?|||Love and Basketball, Just Wright, The Wiz, Book of Eli, I am Legend, Bad Boys,Pursuit of Happyness and Above the Rim.|||yeah, alot of Denzel Washington movies. John Q, Man on Fire (an excellent underrated movie that you should see. In the movie, which is set in mexico, he is "an American" rather than a Black man). There are other examples as well.

Wesley Snipes movies definitely qualify as well.|||Most, if not all, of Denzel Washington's movies would fit that description.

.|||All Denzel Washington movies and most Will Smith movies!|||Denzal washington movies|||Will Smith movies|||Yes, many.

Does the UK get all the North American movies/tv shows?

if I were to move to UK would I still have the shows I watch here in North America?

Does UK have cinemas like North America does? Does the theatres get American movies?|||you would still have some of the shows but not all of them ... some of the shows are very much centred on your own american issues and wouldn't translate to the UK ... others (e.g. Friends) are very popular here

yes of course we have cinemas !!! ... and yes we get all the latest movies from america as well as others from all over the world (including our own) ... I'm sure you get our movies too|||Yes we do have American TV shows and films (some would argue too many), of course we have cinemas, we're not quite 3rd world (well, not yet anyway).|||No - thank god!|||Unfortunately we get most of them. France is so close yet we get to see very few French films, which irks me greatly

What are some movies that are critiques of American society?

I am looking for a couple movies similar to American Beauty, Office Space, etc. that deal with people breaking out of the mold of American society. I guess I am interested in any sort of film, including documentaries, that critiques American society. Just a bored college student home for the summer feeling some malaise and looking for some thought provoking films before I start reading again after my brain recovers from finals.|||Not sure about American Beauty-style critiques of the American Way of Life... but how about these documentaries, all thought-provoking and critical, each in its own way:

- The Corporation - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379225/

- Manufactured Landscapes - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0832903/

- Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1016268/

- The Fog of War - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317910/

Why does it seem like terrorists in movies are usually American or white?

Why does it seem like movie terrorists are usually white, Asian, or American? There are not many movies that have middle eastern terrorists, except for the last few years. Before 9/11, the only movies I can remember having middle eastern terrorists in them are Back To The Future and Delta Force.|||BECAUSE in these days that would be considered "Racist". Stupid, what has this country become i dont get it.|||Because we associate the word "terrorist" with Middle Eastern men. In lieu of 9/11 I can't blame them, as most terrorists we see are Middle Eastern. So we film what we see.|||Because there's just as many white terrorists as there are middle eastern.|||I believe the horrible crapfest, True Lies, had middle eastern terrorists.

American movies give you the wrong impression of high school?

True or false?

Very true in my case, hah. When I walked into the halls of my high school, I was expecting something out of Mean Girls xD|||SOOO TRUE MY FRIEND!! LOL! I thought I was going to get attacked all animal style!! :O|||True. The media tends to put their so-called "flair" on everything. Just as long as people don't take it too seriously, it's no big deal. Turns out beautiful, skinny, laughing women aren't the only ones who eat at McDonald's either. There you have it.

Probably the most unrealistic portrayal of high school has to be Easy A. I mean come on! Were they even TRYING? O_o|||True for me

Scottish high school is nothing like American high school

we don't have cheerleaders or basketball players... or anything like that

we have chavs and slags.|||I'm leaning toward false in my situation. It's not as dramatic as Mean Girls obviously but there are similarities|||TRUE. The archetypes aren't as obvious in real life!|||True!! Another example is highschool musical|||No..it's all true..cheerleaders wear their uniforms 24/7 and belt out random songs that somehow everyone else in the hallway know...|||Mean Girls is closer to the truth than the silly teen movies from the 80s. for me though, I'd say false.|||I'm American and I have yet to see someones lunch money be stolen.|||i thought high school was gonna be like grease, leather jackets, rough guys, everyone looking like they're 25|||True. How it is in the movies and TV is so stupid its irritating.|||Very true. The girls weren't horny at all.|||Luna Lovegood? Why did you expect something out of Mean Girls? Hermione is nice. :3|||Lol well there is High School Musical. None of that stuff happens in regular hight schools|||True|||True ;)|||Yea! I didn't get smashed into a locker, get milk poured on my head, NOR did I get a wedgie!|||Ikr! I mean nobody actually wers skirts that short and act that dumb in real life|||true its nothing like the movies/shows|||yes, same with college

Why in American movies, are people always from rich, affluent suburbs?

Aside from films that make a point of being set in a 'project' or a 'ghetto', all films, especially 'teen' films, are shown in luxurious, affluent houses. Their soaps are too.

Now, correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the bulk of the American population living in more modest means than massive, open-plan duplexes? Is it a staple of American films to show luxurious housing?|||It helps promote the "American Dream" they all aspire to .... they think they can achieve this and are still aiming when they are mugged in the streets that aren't policed properly and still aim for it while they have health issues their insurance doesn't cover ... not once blaming people who uphold the dream to them as a target nor the powers that prevent it ...... democracy in action !! but some would say we have eastenders the eternal slit yer wrists soap that reminds us why the heck bother when you get misery at all levels ..

just my own biased view

ever notice the differences in attitudes maybe we should petition fer the banning of eastenders and have west enders instead ?|||Personally, I think it's easier to have the characters seem wealthy because that way, the writers/director don't have to worry about establishing where the characters get money. I mean, the story is set in a wealthy suburb and bam, we already assume they have money. So when, later in the film, kid steals dad's Porche or Lotus or something, we don't question, "How in the heck can they afford that?" Sure, it's nothing to throw a line in saying, "Oh yeah, dad hit the lottery" but time is money. Also, I think people don't like to be reminded of where they come from. Movies are for entertainment, to escape the mundane worlds we live in...we don't want to see it on TV!|||Well, if you go to any American city those suburbs exist and they are everywhere. Lots of people really do live like that. Most people who live in those neighbourhoods are not even really rich. Most are middle class and just spend a little more on housing. But don't kid yourself, a lot of people live in places that look like that.

PS%26gt; Those homes are a WHOLE lot less expensive in the US then they would be anywhere else. I live no where near places like that but they are EVERYWHERE.|||...just wanted to add that I agree with the answer given by Collie than a lot of the others, the British and American "norm" for housing is completely different, as are the terms for "Middle Class" - plus there are other types of American movies out there, you just got to look for them...

Though yes I think this is right in regards to American *soaps* which are more about the escapist money-money-money-thing... Funny how our British soaps are of the kitchen-sink-drama-aint-life-tough variety!!!

=)|||Because it makes people feel cozy and warm when they see good things on movies such as the main characters living posh and comfortable. Movies are not real so why make them realistic? Only some are true to life and those are not the feel good ones unless they are trying to make you feel sorry for them.|||It's to create an air of dissatisfaction that encourages people to seek out retail therapy to assuage their feelings of inadequacy and so maintain the consumer system and ensure the pensions of the financially elite|||Because everybody in America is rich, beautiful, famous and slim.

Well, everybody worth talking about, anyway.

Cheers, Steve.|||Why not have a bit of fantasy in the fantasy world of films?

We live real life everyday, why would people pay to see what they see day in, day out? |||It's harder to do product placements in the ghetto and Hollywood has always been fantasy land.|||They tried filming the movies in the rich, affluent suburbs of Bangladesh, but they couldn't find any.|||It's Hollywood, and their version of the American Dream. Different areas have different housing|||It helps to up-grade the housing a bit to appeal to Americans. We're always aiming for things bigger and better.|||Because it's the all American dream|||american beauty for example...(did win an oscar, so it does work when its done right..)

Why American movies are containing very bad words these days?

I believe that most of us are noticing that most of American movies these days are containing very bad words such as F..k and Mother F鈥.r where it creates an embarrassing situation if the family around.|||They are a reflection of our society. Listen around you, and you will see the same thing, unless you are good at avoiding it. And the movie industry will do what ever they need to make money, and get people's attention.

Some of the best movies, go against all of that and become classics. That is what Walt Disney was all about... family values.|||Don't go to the movies, if you're offended by that.|||often movies which state they contain "explicit adult language" have that. to name them would be too numerious.. just be aware of the parental advisories!|||People are too easily offended. It's just a word, get over it. Seriously, complain about something that actually matters. The words only have as much power as you give them, if you don't care, then guess what...PROBLEM SOLVED.|||That's why they RATE the movies...you should stick to G %26amp; PG movies.|||well that depends on the type of the movie, especially if the movie is Rated R then it will have those things,

With the curse words it just shows the basic human reaction when they are upset or annoyed.|||Movies that contain frequent use of the words you mentioned are rated R by the MPAA.

I'd suggest watching movies rated G or PG if you are easily offended by mature content.|||You really raise a good point but I guess it really depends on the movie... There are movies that use these bad words just so they can achieve an effect like depicting a bad neighborhood and things like that to evoke thoughts or emotions of the audience-- and we can see how the use of those words play an important part in the movie... however, there are movies that are just plain profane and primarily uses it for its shock (and publicity) value or their writer just plain sucks.

All in all though, check the ratings if watching a movie with your family, especially with young people.

Have fun in the movies!|||Teenaged kids get a thrill out of hearing those bad words, and they buy a lot of movie tickets. I wish the movie companies would stop doing that.|||Most American movies are trash anyway. If they made good movies they wouldn't make so much money. They cater to the lowest in taste and content and not much political awareness either (and they keep everyone brainwashed into thinking it's what they want. Congratulations on questioning it.)|||This is the way they are and thats the truth. They live in bad words. As i have noticed , leave alone their movies even their tv serials are the same and its really a shame on us to watch such vulgar things, because if we watch and assume it as a normal situation within the family , we are giving or teaching our children too the same way as the americans live " in bad words ". Watching their vulgar movies effect people in many ways naming a few : they give them bad thoughts, teach them vulgar actions and moreover the bad language itself , as the saying goes, " WORDS SPEAK BETTER THAN ACTIONS ". This will influence our young generation very badly and it is already doing that since i have seen many youngsters using this slang language more than before now a days, the reason being that they watch these movies and serials a lot. We as parents should beware of this trend and avoid ourselves and our children from watching these vulgar western stuff in order to safe guard our way of living from corruption of our upcoming society.|||Because that's the way people actually talk. It would be really fake if films used only "clean" language, even in situations where stronger language is required. I mean, what do most people actually say, if they miss a train for a few seconds, and there isn't another one for one day? Wouldn't you use one of those words you'd like to be out of the cinema? I know I would.|||American Movies reflect the american society. Bad words are nothing but a reflection of the American ethics. we cannot shut our ears anymore; American ethics are occupying our lives, and they way is not to fight American ethics! it is to fight the whole American civilization.

What do europeans and arabs think of america because of american TV and movies?

What stereotypes are perpetuated in the minds of arabs and europeans from watching american TV and movies?|||I can't speak for Arabs, but being British I can say that the effect of TV and movies has a number of ways of impacting our impression of Americans.

Initially, when I was younger, I noticed how different the US sense of humour was to ours. However over time this seems to be less so - I'm not sure if this simply because of the higher levels of US TV that we have now, or possibly the increase in globalisation which has led to some US brand targeted humour being more easily understood by us, as we share more and more brands with the US.

Beyond this, I began to notice how much history seemed to be re-written by Americans - especially in regards to the second world war; the role played by the US being increasingly portrayed as the only role of importance and indeed that of other nations being portrayed as insignificant or even counterproductive. A most obvious example of this can be seen in a film called U-571, which completely rewrote the facts to make the crucial taking of said u-boat and the most important enigma machine that it carried a US operation, rather than the British success that it had actually been.

Such rewrites of history leave a bad taste in the mouth of nations whose importance to the war effort was every bit as vital as that of the US, as well as giving the impression of a rather ego centric nation, intent on establishing itself as THE world power in every aspect of history that it can.

Moving on, the nature and role of firearms in the culture of Americans is portrayed as almost the only facet of American society with any real meaning - almost every TV show or film that comes out of the US involves guns in some way or other. This is very different to the lives of most Europeans and gives the impression of a gun toting cowboy/hoodlum civilisation in the 21st century - something which I failed to see during my time in the US. In fact, beyond the airport, I cannot remember seeing any guns at all in my 2 month stay in the US.

Although to a continuously lessening amount, the nature of white Americas racism is also quite apparent in both TV and movies, even if only in the extent to which black and white people are shown to interact socially. More unconsciously this is also portrayed in the nature of black roles in US TV or films - if someone has to die it always seems to be the black guy - so much so that this has even become an established part of black counter culture comedy, such as can be seen in many Wayan brothers productions.

Money, whilst no doubt important globally, is shown as being the only real measure of a persons worth in the US, with programs like The OC and the 90120. Aspiration is shown only toward financial goals, with little (if any) importance placed in the community (local, national or global).

Unfortunately, this is also supported not only through US TV and movies, but also within US home and foreign policy shown on the news, as can be seen in the US healthcare (which has finally seen some reform, even if it only managed to pass by a narrow margin) and welfare or actions such as going to war for oil (despite alternative "justifications" being given).

Maybe one of the biggest impacts, on the view of overseas viewers on American life, is the portrayal of a docile people, lied to and ignored by its government, even when the evidence surrounding the lies is staggering and made so public. Most obviously this refers to events such as 9/11 and the assassination of JFK, but also points to the the above healthcare issues, the war in Iraq and more - all of which has been shown in US documentaries shown here.

Finally I would point to the high levels of nationalism portrayed in US TV and movies, which has some relation to the point I raised regarding US historical re-writes. All too often we hear "America is the greatest place on earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", screamed and shouted either by military personnel or drunken jocks. It would seem, if the TV were taken as a true representation, that there is some need for Americans to convince themselves of this idea, no matter how much truth there may be in it, given that the US does not even feature in the top 10 countries.

In summary, the overall impression of Americans given by US TV and film is that of a violent, mentally enslaved people, obsessed with financial gain and the assertion that they are and their country are the most import thing in the world, ever.

As bad as this may seem, it is important to note two things:

1. This is an impression left on us by your own media.

2. Most importantly, this view does not stand up to real life experiences of Americans. As I have mentioned, I spent a little time in the States and can only say that I found everyone (without exception) that I met to be most friendly, genial and engaging.

Additional:

Rochester McBean's comments seems to only support the above - how funny is that!!|||I am an Arab girl %26amp; here's the stages of what I thought of Americans:

Stage number (1)

when i was a kid, I used to think of them as pure evil who are always drunk %26amp; taking drugs! and all of them got HIV, Fat %26amp; Dirty! that they molest children %26amp; rap women 24/7, murders and thugs! etc etc lol

Stage Number (2)

when i was a teenage %26amp; due to the influence of watching Oprah and listening to Britney lol I have became obsessed with the American lifestyle!

Stage Number (3)

Now I am in the NUMB stage lol|||That the americans are stupid beyond belief. They eat the worst food for the body and wonder why they're fat and out of shape. They no very little about their own political system, world events, etc. Also, they are arrogant. Of course, they are few who deviate from the mean...|||Many people who have European or Arab heritage are living in the USA.

They are these Americans you are asking us to describe in stereo types.

That is why they used to describe America as a big melting pot.

If you want to know what people who live either in Europe or the Middle east and have only experienced the USA through it's media because they have never travelled think of Americans?

Well, perhaps if I was a very stupid British person I might be surprised that Americans do not all look like Bruce Willis and do not always arrive on the scene in a flaming car wreck, toting a missile launcher, machine gun, utility belt, several hand grenades, puffig on a Cuban cigar, eating a big mac and guzzling a diet coke.

Most people these days are a lot less stupid than Americans believe them to be.|||That we are the wild west...lol, but the funny thing is the wild west stereotypes tell a lot about how America still is to this day.|||Untrue, prejudice, stereotypes.|||What makes you think Americans give a SHlT ??

Is there such an organized order as MP (Military Police) or just happened at the old american movies?

If such order exists, what is their role?

Do they enforce or advice order within the military?|||What?|||Every American military branch has MPs, they preform duties that civilian Police normally would, but cant since Military bases are outside of local jurisdictions. They prevent/stop/solve crimes just like any other cop.

Before, they would assist in the investigation of a suspected homosexual to eject them from the military, now however, it is not considered a crime to be gay in the American military.

Unwanted physical contact or come-ons are considered harassment for all personnel. Anyone, straight or not will be punished.

Just don't call them that, its not a good idea to insult the MPs.|||Canada has military police, who are the police on military bases, or when dealing with military laws. They are not "peace officers" as the RCMP is, nor anything like that, so, their powers are limited off base.|||Yes, they exist. Every branch has them. They keep order and enforce the law on military bases, they're much like regular police except their jurisdiction is on base.

Edit: Trolololol|||Oh boy....if you think gays and lesbians are committing atrocities, you better not join the military!! DADT has been repealed and is in its first stages of being implemented|||they are police within the military

Why is American movies so dominate while the worlds film makers aren't.?

If you compare American made movies they crush "foreign films" in the money area and people all over the world watch them. Why is this?|||It's a question of financing. Other countries fail to allocate a sufficient budget to ship their movies to international theaters. Others even fail to receive support from their local government.

The movie industry continue to flourish in America since they have lots of financial backing and big stars.|||Because the market for movies is in America.

Basically, movies are EVERYWHERE in America and people have the money to see them and buy the DVDs.

A lot of other areas of the world movies are not commonly available and when they are, they are offered at prices that are much less than what an American movie goer would expect to pay to see a movie.|||If america says it's good, its a good movie
