When did American movies begin being shown in Australia? and how well received?

what were films like in Australia before? and how about New Zealand?

what allowed this? was this at the same time as Briain ? when started Satellite tv? and again, what had been on previously? and how different and how much American films, programs replaced and why?

please explain what you can' too as to how this has affected their culture ..how similar to England still?

thanks for your answers!|||American films have been in Britain for many years, it is because of the successful marketing power of Hollywood to get their films out here. They have pretty much taken over the domestic market and are working on our TV programmes as well.

The effects of this are wide and fairly hard to quantify except subjectively. The good news is that most of us still call things by their traditional British names like: biscuits not cookies, cinema rather than the movies, etc.

I can't answer for Australia, but I'm sure it is not too much different. Interestingly the few Aussie films I've seen tend to show that culturally we Brits have more in common with them than Americans.|||probably because a film gained popularity in america people in britain and australia became interested, it has probably happened quite early on in the film industry.

if probably affected british culture by what we think of other countries like american high schools, we all have a certain idea about what one is like but often it is exagerated to make a movie interesting.
