"World War III" 1980 (tv movie) kind of hard to get ahold of unless you get lucky.





The Soviet Union is still at war in Afghanistan and the US and her allies have imposed a grain embargo on the Soviets. This is a disaster for moscow.





When the US refuses to lift the embargo, a small number of Russian military leaders start a plan to force them to lift it. A spetznez (special forces) unit lands in Alaska and begins making their way across it.





A lowely colonel, new in the area discovers a missing eskimo national guard unit and when investigating it, uncovers the enemy unit.





As the colone tracks the enemy, and readies a undermanned, under armed, national guard company (well half of one) Politics take over in Washington and Iceland as the US tries to negotiate a truce before war begins.





The colonel realizes the russians have one goal, make their way to the oil pipeline, seize a pumping station, and plant dynamite in the pipe where large sections could be destroyed.





As the final battle takes place, in the station, the Russian leader who supports peace and had no idea of what was going on, is killed and the bad guys take over.





It ends with nuclear war.
