while munching on McDonalds, or while chatting on Facebook, or while yapping on the iphone? If these nations are so independent, why do they use our stuff?|||Because some people are ignorant. They don't know anything about the real American people except for what they see on TV. If anyone believes what they see on TV, then they are gullible like children. Don't you feel sorry for people like that?
I believe it is because they are also jealous. They use the excuse that its our "government" and our "foreign policies" they don't agree with. But is that really a reason to hate the American people? A lot of those European countries spent centuries invading other countries %26amp; doing horrible things to each other. Do we hate them for what their leaders did at one point in history? No we don't. Our government and our foreign policies is just a way to justify their groundless hatred for us. Anyone with half a brain knows we have no say in what our government does. They are player haters and its as simple as that.
They are also followers. It is fashionable to hate Americans, so they do what everyone else does. Like little robots.
Do not waste your time arguing with Europeans online. Just talk some smack back and move on with your life. Its not worth it. If we were so bad, why is everyone and their mom trying to come over here? Exactly,
Mike Penance, your answer is irrelevant to this question. We don't hate other western nations or have anything negative to say about them. You are never even really discussed at all . But i have traveled to Europe and anti Americanism is everywhere and i especially noticed it in France and England. I have friends who have gone to Germany and Sweden that had the same experience I know Canadians that were mistaken for Americans, %26amp; as soon as they say they are not American people are a lot nicer. I of course know that everyone isn't like that, but i doubt people from any of those countries listed above would come here and feel as if they are being treated with contempt when simply trying to take a vacation.
And i wish some of you would stop acting as if we are "forcing" our culture on you. There is a demand for our culture in your nations and that is why it is there. If it wasn't selling, it wouldn't be there. If you hate it so much, stop spending money on it.|||Yet you use Nokia phones, eat french food, watch British comedy's, though have a nasty habit or remaking poor copies and then talk about how all powerful the US is.
It's called the power of the multinational, iphones don't represent American culture, the original designer of the ipod was British, I went to the same Uni as him.
Harry Potter seems to be universal, and there seems to be as much of a thing in the states as in the rest of the world.
There's a lot of "British" in American music, after all where do you think all the Idol type programmes come from, Simon Fuller and Simon Cowel have trashed your culture as well.
The only global native American culture forms seem to be dominated by African Americans Rap, Hip Hop, Sports, etc, etc.|||Don't worry the British TV if rife with American trash we have whole channels devoted to them one called Five US.
And the FF takeaways have been trashing our countryside with litter since the 70's.
GMO's from US pharmaceutical companies have been contaminating our food unlabelled since the the 70's and poisoning us with their drugs for decades.
We have also had to live with the US personnel from the Air Force Bases terrorising our roads with their poor driving skills for the last 60 years.
As for rock bands it depends what you pass off as bands we produced Pink Floyd and The Beetles.
Now we have a dirge of Snoop dog style gangster rap imposed on us off the top of my head I can't think of anything with class that derives from the US. There must be something good you would think?
I can't be bothered with all the overrated hype for most stuff anyway US or not.
This clearly goes deeper than food and music so lighten up and take criticism its a manly and polite thing to do.
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind…|||because they trash or rather trashed them based of their political stance rather than the products they produce. no other reason unless your middle eastern then it's based on religion. to consume another nations export is far from making a nation dependant it's based on consumer need it's not a like a nation would collapse without McDonald's or an IPhone. yes there maybe an argument or two but it wouldn't make them any less independent than they already are. Fundamentally trade will always exist regardless of whether someone 'trashes' another nation or not.|||what western nations, and if you mean UK, then most people here don't do that, they didn't like your last idiot President Bush, and his stance on the Middle east, but that's somewhat different from trashing a whole nation.
Mcdonalds is crap, don't use facebook, or yap on any phone, and we have our own culture, built over a thousand years, and even if you think we are tending towards the American way of life, you are sadly mistaken
don;t Americans like British films, music, fashions, in which we are leaders, most of what's good about the technology of film comes from here, and many of the actors, and has done for years, as to Music, well that is as diverse as anywhere, can you tell me what American music is so universal, rap, hip hop, does that compare to the best of British, not really.
The biggest problem i can see with the question is its narrow mindedness.
having travelled to the US, i found the people pleasant and kind mostly, but heavens many have no concept of world affairs, where people live, and exist outside of the US, and are insular in their opinions, and have the worse healthcare system in the western world. Music is still as vibrant, films are produced here, its often only money that gets pumped into the films that mean America has any input. You produce more crap TV in the western world, and have more
poor people and poverty, than one would expect from such
a rich nation, i witnessed it first hand whilst travelling around the US.
Have you actually travelled outside of the US, and met any Europeans, travelled extensively and broadened your horizons, if not you really should, you be surprised what you might learn.|||And a lot of Americans trash everything that is not from the US; yada yada yada. By the way - my iPhone was made in China - what's with that? Anyhow - last time I checked one of the great freedoms the US model stands for is freedom of speech, another is freedom of expression. You should be proud that the US is strong enough and respected enough that people do not fear expressing their opinion about it.
These are feelings you will revisit under your new President. He is a true American.|||I once watched a Korean man on TV when I was in Seoul stanind in front of a Burger King eating a Whopper wearing a Yankees cap wearing levi jeans, and Converse shoes saying in English how much he hated America. I remember thinking that he was more American than I !!!! I also thought " Hey! If it weren't for America, you would be saluting a Communist flag and you'd be naked and hungry!"|||Great question. You certainly seem to have a lot of them back-pedaling.
In my opinion, many other countries attack the USA or look down their noses at us due to two reasons. They mostly are exposed to the Liberal-biased news services or they are jealous. There is a reason many European Nations are no longer what they once were. The reason is genetic. The bold, the daring, the entrepreneurial minded, the motivated risk takers have all left their homelands and come here to the USA over the last 200 years or so. Our history is filled with stories of world changing discoveries, inventions and innovations made by immigrants seeking their piece of the American Dream.
"American Dream"...when was the last time you ever heard the term "British Dream" or "French Dream" or "Italian Dream" or "German Dream"? That is the rub. Those over-regulated, over taxed and socialized societies do not permit room for the bold, daring, innovators. There is no dream.
Sure, we do not produce raw CD's or DVD's in the US anymore. But we do produce what goes on them.
*|||Smasha - here we go again! Well I will give you 10 points for starting another useless and pointless argument, which seems to be your favourite past time. Really, have you nothing better to do?
Old chap, you are as guilty as the rest of the people on here that either trash Britain or USA just for the fun of it - so don't come that "whiter than white" attitude with me!
I have to say your ignorance is only surpassed by your stupidity, so please have a nice day and mind you don't choke on that hate.
To everybody else, I would advise you look at this clown's profile - don't feed his ego!!
Kenneth C : this question was posted on the UK and Ireland site.|||Generalisations going on here. Don't believe all you read in the papers and don't take any notice of the morons who post provocative questions/answers about America/Americans on this site. I don't rubbish Americans, I see them as our allies and our friends, and I'm not alone in that thought either, lots of my friends spend their holidays in America and recently, my best friend got married in Las Vegas. You don't spend that much time in a country you don't like do you?
Don't take things so personal.
EDIT: Just for the record........
Englishman Charles Babbage originated the concept of the computer.
Alexander G. Bell A Scotsman invented the Telephone.
Englishman Michael Faraday invented the Electro-magnetic rotary device which led to the invention of Electricity as we know it.
Etc. etc. Which means without all of these British inventions you would not be on this web site spouting rubbish.|||Well, I think you've fallen into the 'Anti-American' myth that Bush and the Whitehouse minions came out with when the rest of the world opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. ie, anyone who opposed the war was 'anti-American'.
It was the same as when Bush came said that if you didn't support his and Blair's war then you supported the terrorists. Utter nonsense, of course.
Most of the world opposed US foreign policy but not the US or even certain US institutions. The USA isn't a homogeneous mass but rather, like every other country in the world, made up of different individuals with differing tastes, views, likes and dislikes.
In short, we aren't 'anti-American' but critical of US foreign policy which, since it affects many millions of people's lives around the world, is fair enough Don't you?|||You asked why other countries hate your country and that's a question which only other countries can answer with any degree of accuracy, you got the vast majority of your answers from your own people and almost all of those answers are slagging off the other countries, especially the UK, that you are accusing of slagging you off.
I don't hate Americans and I don't hate America... I hate stupid people.|||smasha said: "why do they use our stuff?"

Y'know, just wondering. Although, to be fair, you did invent sliced bread. And without sliced bread, we wouldn't be able to say: "wow, that's the best thing since sliced bread" every time we used something on this list.
EDIT:
sparkle - My answer is so relevant to the question and indeed the asker, that it'd make your head spin. You just missed the point somewhat. His whole “question” is essentially: “We are great. If you don't like that, don't use our stuff, because, did I mention, we're great?” The only real counter to a question like that is: "We are great. If you don't like that, don't use our stuff, because, did I mention, we're great?"
If this question were derserving of anything other (i.e. if this question wasn't just another generic "we're better than you" topic that this site often finds itself flooded with), then I'd surely give one. I, unlike some people, have no desire to pretend that this "question" is anything other than what it is. But thanks for playing.|||Kind of like why some americans are against cheap labor in their own country but are happy to buy/make cheap goods from/in China and support it there. I agree some people do get very aggressive and rude about americans but that doesn't mean some of what they say about some americans isn't true. Saying we shouldn't be in Iraq has little to do with whether you like Bon Jovi or Oasis more.|||Listen, there are people that are always going to be player haters, no matter what. People hate the top dog. However, the rational critics of the US hate the arrogance that a minority of our fellow countrymen and our last President have displayed. Even though I love my country, I don't have to be arrogant and shove it in other nations faces either. People don't tend to like that.
Tom D - Let me kick you a little knowledge.... Firstly, I wouldn't talk about being fat. The UK has the highest obesity rates in Europe and ranked 3rd in the world in obesity, right behind Mexico and of course, the US. WELCOME TO THE CLUB. Secondly, British Sitcoms are about as funny as open heart surgery. Maybe you guys could learn a little from the US in terms of comedy. Also, in terms of crappy food, mushy peas, bubble and squeak aren't exactly what we in New York would call high dining. Before you criticize us, look to your own country, realize all of your inadequacies, and think before opening your mouth. Oh yeah, if we suck so hard, why are you on Yahoo USA? You have a Yahoo UK, so stick to that.|||Pure jealousy. thats why Kobe Bryant and LeBron James jerseys sell more than Yao Ming jerseys in China. Although someone said our stuff comes from other places outside of USA, thats cuz we can make inventions and have some slave make it for $5 and sell it for $200. thats also why other countries hate us, we use their peeps, employ them blow them up but rebuild them over and over.. we are alot cooler by the way too|||Well it could be they have had your goods and chattels forced upon them by the American capitalist system like so many countries in the vast American Empire.Or it could be they just do not like your cocky attitude and feel you all need bringing down a peg or two.Now F off because i have a busy day. DH|||There are many people in many countries, not just "western nations", that enjoy aspects of American culture... but are against US foreign policy. I for one am flattered and appreciative that they astutely make that very important distinction.|||Mostly they are not the same people. The ones that enjoy our culture are having fun and pay little attention to politic just like in the US and repeat what they have been told when asked questions by pollsters and the people that trash us rarely have any fun.|||Because they have succumbed to socialism and we fight to hold to capitalism (the superior form).|||Everyone needs to blame someone don't forget about sadam hussein eating mars bars and drinking siera mist when they found him|||The same reason you eat Pizza,Lasagna, Tacos while listening to the radio and then use the toilet..|||im from england and i dont eat your crappy food, thats why english arent fat like americans, and your tv comedys are terrible|||lol i always thought it was funny. they talk crap about us but watch our movies, listen to our music, and buy our products and make us overall more wealthy ha ha.|||Most of the stuff we use in America is from somewhere else.|||They just would like to have what we have. They can have Obama on loan if they want him. He likes to do speeches in Europe. That's where he got most of his money.|||Hollywood was against Bush and his evil policies. Almost everyone in our music and movies was against them. There's a difference between "let's enjoy life" America and fascist America.
And to the guy above - New York is one of the most liberal states in the country.|||Cause they don't have anything else better to do with there time.|||It is the "in" thing to do.|||western culture owns and i wish people of western nations didnt trash the united states since we are all white.|||As much as they hate us, they want to be us. lol Have you ever see someone rap in Japanese. Why do people of Western nations trash America, but then dance to American music and watch American movies?
