How come it seems that American movies are distributed all over the world, but foreign films are rare in US?

It seems that American films are translated, dubbed, and distributed all over the world, but you rarely have films being distributed in the US that are not originally American, other than maybe that crappy "anime" stuff. Why is this? I've seen foreign films before and find the cultural differences interesting, but everything in America seems to be American, American, American most of the time. I've never understood it.|||America is a 1st world developed country. It's easier to get product out to the entire world.|||America has a very healthy Hollywood budget because they reap in billions in the industry from their country alone plus the extra they make from other countries.





I do agree that the Anime stuff is rubbish to my mind. America seem to take the odd good foreign film though, like The Grudge or The Ring (Both Japanese), and rather than dub them they just remake them and sometimes steal all the credit!!





I think they distribute a lot more British films now though but we have really only come onto the film scene in a big way in the last decade as we've got better accolade and a better budget and more talent!|||Two Reasons:





1) The American film industry is consumerist. It produces the most money and likewise has the most money to produce and distribute its products. Hollywood specifically does incredibly well.





2) Americans are generally (not always, but often) self-absorbed. Not necessarily in a bad way, but the American culture is not very aware of the rest of the world. As an American, it has been my experience that others are very uninterrested in other cultures.
