Why aren't Japanese animated movies reviewed by popular American Movie critics?|||That's partially right Drew but major films released by Japanese Animation studios are reviewed.

I've seen alot of reviews done for Princess Mononoke(made critic Roger Ebert's list of 1999's 10 best films)and Spirited away (basically all of Miyazaki's films get reviewed).

One of the first Japanese Anime films i recall being well received by American critics was Akira, In fact i don't think i would have become as interested in Japan Animation films if I hadn't seen Siskel and Ebert review My neighbor Tottoro and made an effort to see it.|||because they arent american...|||Because they are AMERICAN movie critics.

not JAPANESE movie critics.

lol.

duhh.|||Alot of them may be very popular in japan but in other countries such as America may not be so popular

It's mainly because the critics want to review films in as many readers interests as possible - and there isn't a large enough fan base for japanese anime to make reviewing it worthwhile and cost effective :)|||While American movie critics do choose to review some foreign movies, they only choose the ones that are considered "popular culture" and that they know a majority of Americans will watch. Sadly, right now, animated Japanese movies are not the "norm" for America, so they refuse to review it. Hollywood has become a money hungry industry and that's all they care about, not the quality of the movies anymore.
