Why are most American movies mostly comedy?

I am from Germany, and I love America, but why are there movies about comedy? I love movies. 1990s American movies were so good! Titanic, Private Ryan, Schindler's List, and a lot of good ones. But why are American movies mostly comedy know?|||the descent, repo men, apocalypto, terminator 3, smokin aces, passion of the christ, sherlock holmes, the reader, brothers, public enemies, taken, watchmen, benjamin button, inglorious basterds, the wrestler, law abiding citizen, hurt locker are a few of the newer movies. not comedy|||Guten Abend!

I can't say for certain, but I believe it has something to do with our current attitude as a society.

We have economic problems, wars, and a generally depressed attitude as a whole, so when we go to the movies, we generally want to laugh and be entertained and forget our current problems, even if it is only for the duration of a movie.

I hope this helps!|||The movie studios are run by fearful people. If one movie is a success, they will make hundreds of imitations of it in order to duplicate that success. At times it was Westerns, Sci-fi films, Slasher flicks, and Action films that were widely imitated. Today it is either romantic or frat boy type comedies that are copied endlessly. They are also inexpensive to produce.|||While I'm not entirely certain that comedy films make up the largest percentage of American films made per year, a simple explanation to that effect is that comedy films are cheap and can be made relatively quickly.
